Making Wisconsin carbon free and nuclear free. That was the focus of a meeting at UW-La Crosse Thursday night.
It’s part of a campaign designed to get the United States to commit to a zero carbon dioxide emissions economy without the use of nuclear power by 2050.
Energy officials say with the help of such things like wind and solar power, they hope to one day see Wisconsin 100% renewable. Jennifer Nordstrom from the Carbon Free, Nuclear Free Campaign says, “when you’re talking about renewable resources they’re huge and the technology is evolving such that now we’re talking about base-load wind so we really can do the job with renewables.”
Nordstrom’s visit to La Crosse is part of a statewide tour sponsored by organizations opposing any new nuclear power plants in Wisconsin.
