Trust has helped firms save £32m with carbon cuts

Posted in Top Stories, UK on October 22, 2008

THE Carbon Trust has helped businesses in Wales save £32m in energy costs and cut carbon emissions by more than 500,000 tonnes since its inception in 2001, according to new figures.

And businesses working with the Carbon Trust Wales cut their carbon footprint by more than 120,000 tonnes last year.

An important part of this milestone has been the Carbon Trust’s support for smaller businesses. In 2007-08, the organisation provided £40m of support to SMEs.

Mike Batt, manager of Carbon Trust Wales, said: “We fundamentally believe a move to a low-carbon world represents a vast commercial opportunity for businesses in Wales. In the short-term, with energy prices continuing to rise, the need for business to become ‘carbon literate’ is ever greater.

“Going forward, the companies that prepare now for the move to a low-carbon economy will be the ones best placed to realise the vast commercial opportunities it will bring.”
