Beijing. Within the framework of the EU-Asia summit Bulgaria’s President Georgi Parvanov has delivered a speech about energy security and climate change, the press center of the President’s Office announced.
Having expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to present Bulgaria at its first forum after its EU accession, the President highlighted the important role of the forum in enhancing the dialog and partnership between the two most dynamic regions in the world – Europe and Asia.
The President addressed the participants, saying today’s key challenge is more energy and less carbon dioxide. He outlined the major problems in energy demand and supply – an increased demand of energy resources, a reduction of traditional fuel supply over the next decade, and environmental protection.
Georgi Parvanov noted that “energy security turns into an inseparable and extremely significant part of the national and international security,” which requires a global vision and integrated, consistent and long-term approach, which supposed unprecedented international cooperation.
The President announced Bulgaria’s plans to hold a summit called ‘Natural gas in Europe – security and partnership’ on April 24th and 25th 2009.
