SACRAMENTO, CA — Energy and fuel officials are gathered in Sacramento to discuss new low carbon fuel standards. They say the regulations may be difficult and costly to achieve.
A 2007 executive order by Governor Schwarzenegger created standards to reduce greenhouse gases by 2020 and earlier this year, the state air resources board approved a series of regulations that begin in 2012.

“Everything matters, science, facts, costs, time. We hope to bring to the table some realism to the conversation because it’s not going to be easy and if not done right consumers will be the ones that are impacted the most,” said Catherine Reheis-Boyd of Western States Petroleum.
Officials with the Air Resources Board claim the new regulations will save the state about $11 billion annually when they are fully implemented.
