SUTTON, Neb. — GBS Enterprises, a supplier of mattress protection products, has joined forces with one of the country’s leading carbon offset organizations.
As part of its comprehensive energy strategy, GBS is offsetting emissions from its annual electric and natural gas consumption, as well as from business travel, company officials said. It has also established energy savings programs.
Teaming up with Carbonfund.org, GBS is offsetting nearly 20,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually, officials said. Carbonfund.org works with 900 business partners of all sizes to help them reduce and offset their carbon footprint.
“GBS Enterprises is extremely proud to be a carbonfree partner of Carbonfund.org,” said Mike Svoboda, CEO of GBS Enterprises. “Taking responsibility for the carbon dioxide emissions our company is releasing into the atmosphere is the environmentally responsible thing to do. On a more personal level, as a parent, I find it to be vital for the health and happiness of my own children both now and in the future.”
Among the programs GBS has implemented are recycling of cardboard and paper waste, reduction of electrical usage from a lights-off policy for its office, production and warehouse areas when they are not in use, reduction of heating and cooling system needs from the use of windows for ventilation and temperature control, and a policy of printing from computers only when necessary.
“GBS is a market leader in the mattress protection industry,” said Eric Carlson, executive director of Carbonfund.org, “and we are pleased to work with them to protect our planet.”
