In the global race of carbon neutralization, New Zealand seems to be doing
better than others by expanding its emissions trading program to cover all
industries and greenhouse gases. This would enable the country to become the
first one to fully neutralize all its GHG emissions.
The current plan dictates challenging targets, where the ; there are discussions about
fulfilling around 90% of the electricity needs using renewable energy sources.
The plan also requires the transportation sector to neutralize all its carbon
emissions by 2040, backed up by the governments intention to cut per capita
transport emissions by 50% (of 2007 levels). Another major plan is to add around by the year 2020.
On the household level, the government has started a that will educate individuals about how they can
reduce their emissions and maintain a green living.
