West Sussex is ten out of ten with 10:10

West Sussex County Council is one of the first local authorities to sign up to a new initiative committing to 10 percent carbon emissions cuts in 2010.

The national initiative was launched in London on Tuesday September 1 at the Tate Modern by the makers of ‘The Age of Stupid’ – a climate change film starring Pete Postlethwaite.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy Deborah Urquhart attended the launch. She said: “Anyone can sign up to 10:10 – residents, schools, shops and organisations, to name but a few.

“West Sussex has already paved the way with our 10% Challenge, and now we’re asking residents to take the next step and sign up to this national initiative.”

Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources Louise Goldsmith said: “The County Council has pledged its support to 10:10. We’re already a leading authority in sustainability and have big plans to reduce our energy and water usage at all County Council buildings and schools.”

Plans include draught proofing Edes House and County Hall in Chichester, and an energy management system and improved insulation at Durban House in Bognor Regis.

Louise added: “Residents can make some simple changes to their lifestyle, which will easily add up to a reduction in their carbon emissions.”

Ideas include insulating your home, walking or cycling, and using low energy lightbulbs.
