LONDON, Jan 16 (Reuters) - European carbon emissions permits for 2009 delivery CFI2Z9 hit an all-time low on Friday, pulled lower by weaker energy prices and increased spot selling.
The benchmark futures for emissions permits traded under the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme fell 65 cents or almost 5 percent to 12.60 euros a tonne.
The previous low had been 12.80 euros, hit in February 2007.
The futures prices have been pulled lower recently by increased selling on the spot market, as cash-strapped installations sell their unneeded permit quotas, traders said.
U.S. crude oil futures were steady around $35 a barrel after falling 5 percent overnight.
