An array of US regulatory authorities may be asked to look into the emerging US carbon trade as the fallout from the global financial crisis continues to reverberate across Capitol Hill. A proposed Senate financial reform bill, aimed at clamping down on the dubious market practices blamed for the 2007-08 crisis, would require an in-depth study of the carbon trade “to ensure an efficient, secure, and transparent carbon market, including oversight of spot markets and derivative markets.”
