Opinion: Broward Schools save trees and cuts its carbon footprint

Fewer scraps of paper, discarded soda cans and empty water bottles were tossed into Broward Schools recycling bins from August 2009 to January 2010, according to district documents.

Students and staff recycled 1, 013 tons of trash during the first half of the school year154 tons less than the same time last year.

But the drop doesnt mean folks are less eco-friendly, said Joanne Harrison, deputy superintendent of educational programs and student support.
