A COUNCIL has announced plans to slash its carbon footprint by a quarter during the next five years.
Schools across Darlington, the Dolphin Centre, the Civic Theatre and Arts Centre will all have to cut their emissions if Darlington Borough Council is to reach its ambitious target.
The authority’s carbon footprint has been calculated as 17,939 tonnes for 2008-9, which includes emissions from all buildings, vehicles and employees travelling to and from meetings.
The council’s carbon management plan, which it has compiled over the past year with the Carbon Trust, sets out the actions the council needs to take.
