April 18 (Bloomberg) — Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling will introduce incentives this coming week for U.K. businesses to fight global warming by capturing carbon dioxide and storing it underground, two people familiar with the plans said.
The Treasury is trying to get companies to take the lead in developing so-called carbon capture technology, said one of the people, who cant be identified as hes not authorized to speak with the press. The government has already said it will fund one test project. Companies vying for funding include E.ON AG, Iberdrola SAs Scottish Power unit, and an RWE AG-led group.
