An ‘affordable’ zero carbon home was unveiled yesterday (November 25th) at the Eco Innovation Forum in London.
The StramitZED build reaches Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, yet construction costs are just £1,175sq/m for a three-bedroom property, compared to £1,475 to £1,675 for an average Level 6 house, GreenBuildNews.co.uk reported.
Bill Dunster from the ZEDfactory, which worked on the project with Stramit Technology Group, told the news source: “The system provides Code level 6 performance with no net cost for energy, at an affordable build cost.”
Features of the property include solar PV, solar thermal and passive heat recovery technology with a Welsh timber frame and insulation.
To ensure the building’s thermal mass evens out fluctuations in temperature, terracotta floor tiles and ceiling bricks are used, the site claimed.
The Eco Innovation Forum event provided information on how businesses can move to a low carbon economy and examined the investment opportunities in the UK’s environmental and energy sector.
