Part I provided a brief explanation of carbon credit trading, but now the question is whether or not such a market is effective in stemming global warming. The answer is not as straight forward as one might think.
The Way it Could Be:
On paper, cap and trade has its merits. Companies are kept in check by their pursuit of profit being hampered when their emissions exceed the cap. Likewise, “green” companies can profit when their emissions come in way under. It’s a mechanism that should shift the way companies function by influencing their bottom line.
