IT systems ‘can help with carbon management’

| Sourced From |

Finding the right IT system is essential for businesses to effectively implement the government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), it has been claimed.

Sonny Masero, vice president of ecoSoftware for CA Technologies, said that as business requirements with regard to the CRC change over the coming years, software can help ensure carbon management practices are at their most effective.

The comments come after a survey by the company found that 65 per cent of businesses believe that the head of the IT department should be directly involved in carbon reduction strategies.

Some 79 per cent of those surveyed also said that they would be looking to use spreadsheets to keep track of their emissions data.

“Effective data management is important for this legislation because company reports could be audited and therefore data quality and the supporting evidence is crucial to avoid fines and criticism for non-compliance,” Mr Masero said.

He added that using a Software-as-a-Service provider will allow increased “flexibility” to measure performance over time.
