Report to push carbon price: Combet

| Sourced From |

Climate Change Minister Greg Combet says the government will use a report to be released on Friday to push the case for a carbon price.

The report by the prime minister’s taskforce reportedly was given to the cabinet in July, before an election was called.

It recommends Australia adopt a target of 30 per cent increase in energy efficiency by 2020, Fairfax newspapers report.

Mr Combet said the report would lead discussion about how best to cut carbon pollution.

“It’s well recognised that to drive the emissions down in our economy, to cut pollution in the most effective way, you need a market mechanism like a carbon price,” he told ABC Radio.

The report would also lead discussion on energy efficiency, Mr Combet said.
