ALBURY deputy mayor Henk van de Ven is fearful about the ramifications of a carbon tax being introduced if the Labor Government is re-elected at the federal poll next month.
Cr van de Ven wants a carbon tax on the agenda at the Local Government Association conference in October after expressing fears last night the government could reap an additional $4 million from Albury which operates a regional waste facility.
The councils engineering director, Brad Ferris, told councillors the proposed tax would equate to $40 per tonne with Albury aiming to cut its waste to the tip from 200,000 to 100,000 tonnes under the recent initiative, Halve Waste.
