Jamie Oliver has teamed up with experts to produce a new mini series that will be carbon-neutral. Working with the Green Party and Best Foot Forward, an environmental organization, Oliver has managed to come up with ways to offset the carbon footprint of his new show, Jamie’s American Roadtrip.
“I felt that, as a programme-maker, it was my duty really to stand up and say that, if we’re going to shoot these brilliant programmes which involve flying quite a few people everywhere, we should make a difference and help save the planet,” Oliver said.
It was worked out that making the series across six states in the U.S. would produce 242.6 tonnes of carbon. Jamie Oliver then enlisted the help of ClimateCare to identify projects that would help offset this amount. Among the schemes chosen is solar-power generation in India, wind-power generation in China and the supply of energy efficient stoves to Cambodia.
It is believed that this is the first carbon-neutral series to be filmed and Jamie Oliver says that he will continue the process for further projects.
Paul Cooper, managing director at Best Foot Forward said: “We are all great fans of Jamie Oliver here at Best Foot Forward. Businesses everywhere should be following his lead.”
