The Environmental Damage (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2009 comes into force on March 1st and businesses may want to make sure they their practices comply with legislation.
The new law will implement the EU environmental liability directive into UK law.
Firms which wish to support the UK in moving to a low-carbon economy may have forgotten about one vital resource they can use - energy efficiency - the Confederation of British Industry’s director of business environment Dr Neil Bentley has stated.
He said that being energy-efficient can reduce overheads and the demand on the depleting power supplies, as well as being a proven and workable solution.
“Energy efficiency is not a silver bullet, but it comes hand in hand with decarbonising our energy supply. It makes sense for everyone - saving energy means saving money,” Dr Bentley said.
Organisations which not only want to save money but also adhere to the new law may want to send employees on an Integrated Environmental Management Programme, which Norwich Union Risk Services offers.
