PhD Researcher Says Legal Framework Missing, Australian Carbon Trading Would Weaken

Although the Australian government has brought its carbon trading plan into limelight, the scheme , claims PhD researcher who’s studying the legalities involved with emissions trading in Australia.

 No Legal Framework for Australia Carbon Trading

The researcher, who’s in the , highlighted that many legal issues can arise later, especially as the government isn’t bringing any new rules that address the ownership of carbon permits.

“Ultimately, this will affect the inherent financial value of the permits and may undermine the overall effectiveness of the carbon market system,” explained Durrant. “It is critical to define and characterize the legal nature of the tradeable permit as this is essential to facilitate trade within the market.”
