The Chinese and Aussies are trying hard to make coal-fired power plants a relatively better choice in terms of their environmental impact, but it seems their efforts won’t get enough fruits in the near future. In a recently released report, Australian energy consultancy claims the dream of commercial clean-coal technology .

“Based on the information available, it seems reasonable to assume that emerging technologies (such as coal plant with carbon capture and storage) are unlikely to be commercially available before 2020, with demonstration projects potentially operating from 2015 onwards,” .
The consultancy reconfirmed this again in a different report released by the this week. On the other hand, Australian Energy Minister Martin Ferguson aims to have commercially-feasible CCS ready sometime during 2015-2020.
“We have got to have a target … of making a real commercial breakthrough in terms of deployment of low-emissions coal technology in the time span 2015 to 2020,” asserted the minister.
