Dubai (PTI): The Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), which is to be inaugurated on Monday in Doha, will help Qatar to emerge as a leader in scientific research and transform oil-rich nation into a dynamic post-carbon economy, a senior government officials and industry figures said.

The technology park also promises to become an international hub for education, innovation and entrepreneurship and transform Qatar into a knowledge-based economy by attracting commercially-oriented research.

“QSTP is a unique opportunity, especially for the next generation in Qatar and elsewhere. We aim to attract the best talents, to encourage creativity, and we provide the funding and facilities to make that possible,” Dr Tidu Maini, the executive chairman of QSTP, said.

“Research and higher education are tightly linked. As part of our vision for sustainable, lifelong learning, Qatar Foundation plans to invest in higher and executive education. These new programs will be introduced soon in the existing Qatar Foundation universities,” Dr Fathy Al Saoud, the President of Qatar Foundation, said.

Qatar’s one of the most long-standing strategic energy partners Total, one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies and a chemicals manufacturer, also hailed Qatar’s emergence as a science and technology hub with the inauguration of QSTP.
