The Parlotones to rock at carbon-free concert

LOCAL crossover rock band The Parlotones will host two performances at Emperors Palace this month to endorse the carbon-free initiative.

Titled Carbon Free Concert, the event takes place at the Theatre of Marcellus on January 22 and 23.

Having quickly launched its name both locally and internationally, the group is promoting the carbon-free initiative, an SABC3 venture.

SABC3 launched the campaign on August 2 last year with the help of CarbonWorx team to advocate the importance of a carbon-free planet.

The Parlotones are known for their electric stage performances that have wooed fans worldwide. The group’s sound, which is influenced by the likes of Muse, Radiohead and the Smiths, has evolved substantially, becoming more refined and focused with each album they release.

Since its debut in 2005, the group has done excessively well, winning awards and launching their international profile. The group has won three South African Music Awards and three Video Awards.

The Parlotones have performed in various towns in England such as Reading, Bristol, Liverpool, Guildford, Portsmouth, Manchester, as well as in Bucharest and Germany. The rock band has been well received in the US where they made it to the CMJ Top 200 chart.

The group kick-started the Carbon Free Concert initiative last month when they performed at Mentors Country Estate in Jeffries Bay and Wavehouse in Umhlanga.

Tickets for the shows cost R175 a person.
