Carbon Trust launches off-shore wind competition

UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Miliband, has announced a global competition in conjunction with the Carbon Trust to find new designs for wind turbine foundations that are suitable for the deep sea water conditions (30-60m) required for off-shore wind projects.

Report Says Wind Turbines Cut More Emissions in Rural Areas

A recent report by Carbon Trust claims wind turbines are indeed effective in cutting CO2 emissions unless they are installed in an inappropriate manner. It further says that turbines operating in urban areas will have a hard time proving their benefit whereas those in rural areas are likely to get more wind and would perform far better.

John Callaghan of Carbon Trust said his company released the report to illuminate the usefulness of small-scale wind turbines.
