California On Starting the First U.S. Carbon Market

No carbon market boom without U.S.: delegates

(Reuters) – The global carbon market will not be worth $1-2 trillion a year by 2020 if the United States does not speed up efforts for a federal emissions trading scheme, delegates warned at a carbon conference in London on Monday.

“There will be, I’m afraid, no real expansion of the carbon markets to their global potential without movement in the U.S.,” said Henry Derwent, chief executive and president of the International Emissions Trading Association.

Last chance before Copenhagen climate negotiations for industry and governments to meet
SINGAPORE, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Dr. Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UN agency in charge of the Kyoto Protocol, has just confirmed that a representative from their Accreditation and Project Assessment unit will be meeting with carbon buyers and sellers in China, in a last chance for the industry to meet before the Copenhagen climate negotiations determine a successor to the current treaty expiring in 2012.
