Strong defends approach to reducing carbon output

| Sourced From KTen |

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Thirty-two U.S. states are working to put together climate action plans to reduce their carbon emissions, but Oklahoma is not 1 of them.

However, Environment Secretary J.D. Strong says that doesn’t mean the state isn’t taking steps of its own.

Strong sees the state’s growth in wind energy production, research on the potential of switchgrass to be a fuel source and plans by electric utilities to decrease carbon output as ways Oklahoma is preparing to deal with climate change.

Strong says the climate action plans are one way to show that a state wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but not the only way.

He says Oklahoma is taking interim steps to reduce carbon in the state and waiting for the federal government to establish regulatory caps.
