Panhandling and carbon credits on slate in Arcata

| Sourced From Times-standard.com |

In response to complaints about aggressive panhandling around bank ATMs, restaurants and businesses, Arcata may soon have an ordinance that targets panhandling in specific areas and situations.

Despite one city councilman’s argument that an ordinance is not necessary, the Arcata City Council voted Wednesday to draft an ordinance that may make it illegal for people to aggressively panhandle specific distances from banks, businesses or from people in vehicles.

Councilman Shane Brinton said laws against aggressive behavior already exist and an ordinance was not necessary.
